Jolie attacks West over refugee treatment

UN goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie has accused Western nations of trying to shut out migrants, including refugees, from troubled nations such as Africa. The actress, who is known for her humanitarian work, made the criticism in a magazine published by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Reuters news agency reports.Writing in the magazine, entitled Refugees, Jolie stressed that more than 7,000 people had died trying to get into Europe over the past decade and claimed it was a scandal that rich nations were not feeding all those living in refugee camps.Jolie, who became a UNHCR goodwill ambassador five years ago, described her visits to some of the countries where refugees remain as a "shocking eye opener"."Many have also died trying to get into the United States and Australia. But we don't notice," the actress wrote.Meanwhile, the 31-year-old star, who is currently in India filming a new movie about the murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl, has revealed that she and partner Brad Pitt have donated $100,000 (£54,000) to a charitable foundation set up in his memory.Jolie is playing Mariane, the wife of the Wall Street Journal reporter, in the forthcoming film A Mighty Heart, which is based on the memoir of the widow. Pearl was killed in 2002 after being abducted in Pakistan while researching a story about al-Qaida in the wake of the September 11th attacks. Both Jolie and her boyfriend Pitt are working on the movie, which is being produced by his Plan B film company
